OUR CHANCELLOR
The Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Mr. Saiyid Hamid, is one of the most respected figure in the educational circles of Indian Muslims. His contribution to revival of highest standard of teaching and research in Aligarh Muslim University is appreciated be all the right thinking people in the country. During this tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh, he laid great emphasis on discipline, commitment and adherence to be the highest standard of innovation. His extensive writings in Urdu and English have motivated the entire generation of Muslims to the cause of addressing problems of educational backwardness of northern Indian Muslims. He has been a personal source of inspiration for a number of philanthropists who have set up educational institution in various parts of the country. Many such institutions have been set up by his highest commitment to the cause of education but having only limiter resources.
He was selected by the founder of the University, Hakeem Abdul Hameed, as a secretary, Hamdard Education society which he joined after his retirement from Aligarh Muslim University. He draws a token monthly salary of Rs. 1 only from Hamdard Education Society. The Hamdard study circle, country's premier coaching center for civil service was conceived and executed by him.
Currently, he is engaged in the activities aimed at the bringing the two major communities (Hindus and Muslims) closer by inter-faith dialogue. He led Aman-Shanti Yatra in October 2003 to major cities and towns of UP which generated goodwill among the communities. The Yatra attracted many eminent personalities like Mr. Kuldeep Nayar, Mrs. Nirmala Deshpande, Mr. John Dayal, Mrs. Roop Rekha Verma etc.
His devotion to the course of education has resulted in setting up of a residential boarding school (Hamdard Public School) in Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi. The school attracts students from all parts of the country including Northeastern states and also Non-Resident Indians.
